How to use it

1. Fit the coupler. Place it in the bag and screw the tip on.

2. Check your frosting. Lift a spoon out of it: it should hold a firm peak without drooping. If it's too soft, beat in powdered sugar a spoonful at a time, or chill it for a few minutes.

3. Fill the bag. Fill it about halfway and twist the top closed.

4. Pipe. Hold the tip close to the cake, squeeze with steady pressure, then pull away. Pipe a few on parchment first.

5. Rinse. Wash the tips in warm soapy water after use.

Great piping tips with American buttercream; plastic piping bags are poor quality

It was my first time baking from scratch, using any piping tips, and actually decorating cupcakes. It turned out pretty alright, I think. My sister, mom, and my BIL's mom thought I ordered them. I watched a couple of tutorials before deciding to make cupcakes for Mother's Day. The only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is that the piping bags were very fragile and broke/burst several times. I layered and doubled them as a quick fix and went even up to 6 layers of piping bags because they kept breaking. I also tried to wrap them with plastic wrap. It just made the process harder and take longer than it had to. Otherwise, I loved the results as a first timer. I used American buttercream as recommended by some video tutorials. I will definitely order more varieties of the piping tips soon!

These are so easy to use! After reading the reviews I tried first with the coupler and they worked fine but I actually had more success with just using them in the bag so I could get all the frosting out. The only “problem” I had was that I had to make a lot more frosting because once I started I went a little overboard with adding more.

I love these Russian Piping Tips!

I couldn’t wait to use these tips! I watched a few videos on YouTube before using them. After watching some instructional videos I felt I was ready to tackle it. As you can see, they worked beautifully. You have to twist back and forth to create this look. These tips leave an opening in the middle which you can fill in with frosting to make it look like the center of a flower or in this case I used a heart shaped jelly candy because these were for Valentine’s Day. I highly recommend watching the videos to make it easier to learn how to use these tips. I like all of the different designs and they are very well-made. The only thing that I didn’t like was the size of the disposable bags they give you which are super small. These would be better used if you’re doing leaves or small flowers with other tips. But with these large tips you really do need large bags. These bags only hold enough frosting for three cupcakes at the most. Which makes for so much more work then if you’re using a large bag. So take my advice and buy some large disposable bags so you don’t have to constantly be refilling them. But the tips and couplers are really outstanding and I can’t wait to use them on other designs. Another thing you can do is to pipe out flowers on parchment on a cookie sheet and freeze them. Then you peel them off the parchment or wax paper and stick them right on top of your cake or a cupcake. For these cupcakes I made chocolate cupcakes and then I put a peanut butter frosting on top and piped on a vanilla buttercream using the tips. I highly recommend these tips and I think they would even be good for someone who is a beginner in Frosting. I’m very pleased!

Your cake tastes great, but the frosting looks homemade

You bake it from scratch, then try to decorate it with a spoon or a snipped bag, and the swirls come out lumpy. It's rarely your hands: frosting that's too soft spreads instead of holding a shape, and a snipped bag can only pipe a round swirl.

Each stainless steel tip is cut to form a shape as the frosting comes through: rosettes, petals, lace-like borders. Squeeze with steady pressure and the pattern builds itself, so the result depends far more on the tip than on years of practice.

Why do my flowers come out flat or messy?

It's usually the frosting, not your hands. Frosting that's too soft spreads and collapses, and frosting that's too stiff is hard to squeeze. Aim for a smooth buttercream that holds a firm peak. If it softens in the bag from the warmth of your hands, chill it for a few minutes.

Are the Russian tips hard to use?

There's a short learning curve. Hold the tip straight down, touch the surface, squeeze, then lift. Pipe a few practice flowers on a plate or parchment first: most of the difference comes from the texture of your frosting, not from skill.

Can I use canned frosting?

Yes, but not straight from the tub. Canned frosting is made to spread, so it's usually too soft to hold a flower. Beat in powdered sugar a spoonful at a time until it holds a firm peak, then pipe.

Which tip makes which design?

The fastest way to know: pipe one flower with each tip on parchment before you start. In a couple of minutes you'll see every design and can pick the ones you want for your cake.

Will the piping bag hold up?

For small flowers and leaves, the included bag does the job. The large Russian tips use more frosting, so a bigger bag means less refilling. Fill it only halfway and twist the top closed: an overfilled bag is harder to squeeze evenly.

Is it easy to clean?

The tips are stainless steel. Rinse them in warm water right after piping, before the frosting sets, then wash them in warm soapy water. A small brush gets frosting out of the openings.

I think it’s me! I can’t get the icing consistency correct and the flowers just don’t look detailed enough. I’m sure it’s just me … but I am disappointed. I will continue to search for better recipe to pipe the beautiful flowers. I look forward to making flowers like I see in the YouTube videos.

These are fun and a great idea but do require practice. Personally, I'm going to stick with regular frosting tips as the only one in this set that worked consistently with my efforts was the leaf tip. Great quality for materials and they came clean easily after use. The resuseable silicone bag is nice to have.

Like them, disappointed there was no “pattern guide” that came with for the tips - you have to trial by error to see what designs come out - I went to Hobby Lobby & found a tip kit that had many of these and snapped some pictures - so you can see what designs produce… when you get them home.. they are rather large which freaked me out - but they will work for small cupcakes- with not a total over kill of frosting -you’ll get bout 6-7 “buds” then you can fill with leaves - YouTube has some great videos on blending multiple colors for two tone flowers :). Pretty much explains itself. There is quite a bit choice to make with the number of tips it provides, and they are durable and very simple to use. I think its worth the purchase if you are starting out in the baking field. I'd like to see more 3 bags though in the kit and then it say 50 items. lol. Or possibly offer tips/advice on the best icing types to use to get better results.

The tips are Great and I love the selection. The only reason I gave a Four star is because there's one that holds three bags in one tip. It was So hard to keep the three together to screw on the "nut" with the bags that come with it. Then, you have three bags to try to hold while piping. You Def want different piping bags. The one silicone blue bag worked good tho. And be prepared to use a LOT of icing... But, they did a good job.

We used the ball tips to decorate 100 cupcakes for my mom's 90th birthday party. We watched a tutorial on YouTube then practiced for a bit before doing the cupcakes. They were easy to use for us beginners to get the look we wanted without much difficulty. I watched a lot of YouTube and wanted to try these. I’m an amateur and the first batch didn’t go well but the second time they were gorgeous! It just takes practice to get your frosting the right temperature. Make extra frosting to practice with. Practice on a plate. If you know your frosting is getting warm don’t put it in a piping bag, put the bowl in the fridge for a few minutes, then put it in the bag (it’s a lot easier this way because if it’s already in the bag it doesn’t cool down evenly and can get hard at the nozzle). Great for beginning bakers

I am a beginning baker, so I was looking for a reasonable investment. This set is great and larger than I expected. I will need to use these and update the review. However, I am optimistic that these will create beautiful pipping for cookies and cakes. If you are undecided I would say the product seems worth the price, especially if you are just starting out and want to focus on making flowers.

Great quality

There is definitely a learning curve with Russian piping tips. I recommend watching videos on how to use them and just play around with them. Using multiple colors in your piping bag helps to create beautiful flowers. I haven't had a lot of success using American buttercream with these but Swiss buttercream makes beautiful flowers with these tips.

I bought these to decorate a cookie cake for a friends birthday. It took a bit of trial and error at first but it was well worth it. I look forward to practicing with them to see what I can do.

Great sizing. Was easy to use if your buttercream is at the right temperature. Cute and multiple different tips.

These tips are better and better the more I use them. If you are using these for the first time I recommend a little practice before you just go in on a project. Your frosting has to be pretty firm for these to turn out really nice.

First time using Russian tips

I got the hang of piping. Found that you need to go slow and the flowers will look good. The set came with one reusable and a bunch disposable bags. However, the reusable bag is ok skinny at the top to is the Russian tips. Good for the leaf tips. The disposable bags are way too small to use with the Russian tips. Luckily I had larger bags already but if a set comes with bags they should be usable with the product purchased.

Makes great designs on cupcakes 🧁. I have not used it for cakes as of yet. Easy to keep clean by running hot water on it right after using it bc the icing builds up easily &starts getting stuck.

I’m a self taught baker and I purchased these in attempt to recreate some inspo cakes i’ve seen online. let me just give you some pointers before you throw in the towel on these pipping tips… Chill your frosting well in advance to decorating If you’re struggling to put the pieces together get a disposable pipping bag and use it as you would any other pipping tip Practice practice practice! Overall it is a great product and I have enjoyed getting to use these on my cakes! Happy baking!

This was my first time trying to put icing on something and I was not disappointed. There’s a lot of tips and they also come with the baggies!

Russian piping set/cake decorating 30 years on and off.

Cannot wait to use these. They literally, just got here. Very pleased with the price/value and first time user of these tips. Couplers are smooth, easy on off. Plastic bags are angled. Also come with a blue silicone sleeve. Two leaf tips appear to be of lesser quality (thinner) than the tips themselves. May eventually want to get a case.

These tips were so fun to use, and the cupcakes turned out so cute. There was not an instruction pamphlet, so I watched some you tube videos for tips. Very well made, and I appreciated the option of disposable and reusable bags.

I thought that these nozzles would allow me to create the most elegant flowers on my cupcakes for my job as a cake decorator at a local grocery store, but alas, it was not that simple. The product is well priced for all you get, and made of stainless steel which feels the same in quality to my expensive Wilton tips. The buttercream has to be in a happy middle range of not too runny and not too stiff. The middle where it’s pliable but not too thin or runny is the best for the process to work as advertised. I had to try several techniques to get the flowers to come out uniform and look nicely like the photos appeared, but that’s to be expected in some ways. If you’re on the fence with this purchase, know it will take a bit of playing and experimenting but the result will be really detailed flowers that are somewhat uniform. I enjoy them!
